Volunteering with St. Paul FSC

Our Club’s success has been built on the engagement and volunteer support of our members. As part of your membership requirements, Home Club members are required to fulfill annual volunteer hours to support the activities and growth of the Club. The number of volunteer hours are determined annually by the Board of Directors and reported to members for the following membership year prior to the membership renewal deadline.

2019-2020 Volunteering Requirements (per family)

All Junior and Senior Club Members are required to volunteer a minimum of 45* hours per family during the 2019-2020 Membership year. This requirement, however, is reduced to 30 hours if the skater participates in one of the SPFSC Competitions, as described below.  All Introductory Home Club Members are required to volunteer a minimum of 15 hours per family during the 2019-2020 membership year. Credit for June Bug is available to Junior Club members only. Introductory Home Club members do not receive credit for competition participation toward their volunteer requirement because they have a lower minimum requirement of volunteer hours.

Skate St. Paul and June Bug Competitions

Skate St. Paul and June Bug are the club’s annual competitions and are the primary fundraising tools of SPFSC. Due to our particular type of 501 (c)(3) registration, the club is prohibited from traditional types of fundraising, and relies solely on these competitions and our annual ice shows for fundraising. All Club skaters are expected to participate in Skate St. Paul or June Bug. Skaters who compete at these events will receive a credit of 15 volunteer hours for Skate St. Paul and 10 volunteer hours for June Bug (skaters who compete in both events will receive a credit of 15 hours).

To fulfill this requirement for the 2019-2020 membership year, skaters must register in the 2020 Skate St. Paul event held July 17-19, 2020 or the 2020 June Bug event held on May 3rd, 2020. Optionally, families may pay a fee equivalent to the entry fee of each event (fees will be announced Spring 2020) to receive the volunteer hour credit.

Volunteering Buy Out Option

Families may opt out of any and all volunteering requirements by paying a $450 fee* ($10/hr, 45 hour requirement) for the Junior and Senior Membership levels and a $150 fee ($10/hr, 15 hour requirement) for the Introductory Membership level.

Volunteer Tracking and Fulfillment Verification

Volunteer hours will be tracked by the SPFSC Volunteer Chair. At the end of the membership year each family’s volunteer hours will be assessed for fulfillment verification. Families who have not met the minimum number of hours required will be assessed a $10 per hour fee for every hour below the minimum number of hours required.

Volunteer hours will soon be able to be checked by clicking on the Members tab at the top of the home page, clicking on SPFSC Members Only, entering the Members Only portal password (please email stpaulfscboard@gmail.com if you need access to the password, please allow a 24-48 hour response) and then clicking on the button at the top of the page that says, "Click here to check your volunteer hours". You will need to select your skater's assigned USFS number to access your hours. This information will be updated quarterly. THIS FUNCTION IS SET TO LAUNCH IN 2020.

Volunteering Opportunities

Volunteer opportunities for the 2019-2020 Membership year will be announced and posted in October 2019 during the Annual Membership meeting on October 4th, 2019 at 5:30pm at Pleasant Arena.

*Not typical, volunteer hours have been increased for the 2019/2020 Membership year due to St. Paul FSC hosting the Upper Great Lakes Regional competition.

Please contact Kristen Goehler (spfsc.bod@gmail.com), Volunteer Chair, with questions.
